Laura Shaffer

LAPC, Therapist

She/They

Laura Shaffer is a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) who earned her Master’s degree in Counseling from Adams State University in 2025. She completed three years of advanced training at the Gestalt Institute of Pittsburgh from 2022 to 2025, developing her understanding of Gestalt therapy and its emphasis on present-moment awareness, authenticity, and personal choice.

In her psychotherapy practice, Laura takes a collaborative and experiential approach to helping clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships. She supports clients in exploring how they show up in different areas of their lives, including work, relationships, and their sense of identity. Rather than focusing primarily on skills or structured homework, Laura encourages curiosity, creative exploration, and experimentation with new ways of relating to oneself and others.

Laura’s approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that greater awareness can create opportunities for meaningful change. She works with clients to explore the patterns and expectations that may make it difficult to feel authentic while maintaining connection with others. Through this process, clients can develop a greater sense of choice in how they navigate their lives and relationships, while making room for new possibilities and joy.

Laura has experience working with neurodivergent individuals and values incorporating clients’ interests and unique ways of engaging with the world into the therapeutic process. Depending on the client’s preferences, this may include gaming, outdoor activities, creative arts, or other personally meaningful interests. She also enjoys helping clients navigate relationship challenges, particularly when balancing authenticity, connection, and a sense of belonging feels difficult.
