Owner, Director, Therapist
She/Her/Hers
Marisa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and practicing trauma therapist. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy from Washington & Jefferson College in 2014. With a focus on gender studies and mental health, she earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh in 2016.
She started her social work career working within the Allegheny County Jail providing psychoeducational groups on change to adult men and women in 2015. In her work within the criminal justice system, she developed and delivered psychoeducational training on offering services within the field of the forensics from a cultural humility approach. She began her specialty in trauma therapy and sexual assault counseling in 2017.
In her psychotherapy, Marisa uses Gestalt theory, trauma-focused techniques, and somatic approaches to help her clients gain awareness to reach their desired goals. She believes therapy provides a supportive and open environment to challenge unhelpful patterns of thought and work on tackling unfinished business that can impact clients’ present lives. It can be challenging to take accountability in the face of pain, confusion, and uncertainty. Together, therapist and client can find threads to build awareness, take accountability, and move forward towards established goals.
She is certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy and Trauma-Focused CBT, trained in EMDR Therapy, Sex Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. She is experienced in treating sexual problems and aims to help clients increase intimacy in their lives.
Marisa is proficient in working with folks involved in sex work and with folks in the LGBTQIA+ community. She is sex positive, kink-aware, and BDSM-friendly, and welcomes discussion related to fetish, sexuality and dominant/submissive-issues within relationships.
In her time outside of providing therapy, she enjoys writing poetry, fostering personal relationships, and hiking. She is an advocate for indoor plants and a lover of her 3 adopted cats.
